#PinoyligaAlumniCup: Yee the key as UST mauls Baste in a finals rematch

Unlike in their meeting in last season's title game, this one's a no contest.

UST clawed apart San Sebastian in their semifinal match-up of the 40UP Division A of the Pinoyliga Alumni Cup, routing them 79-55 Saturday morning at the Gatorade Hoops Center.

Making sure that their win over the Stags to take the trophy last year was not a fluke, the SSI Metal-backed Growling Tigers blew them out right from the opening tip, as they broke free in the first quarter where they limited Baste to just seven points while they engineered an 11-0 run to take the upper hand the rest of the way.
Furthermore, UST even led by as much as 31 in a battle between two of the college powerhouses in the 90s in which several players were part of those legendary championship streaks.

The dynamic duo of Romel David and Richard Yee put the clamps on San Sebastian, with the former leading all scorers with 23 points.

But Yee, a PBA veteran who spent most of his career with Purefoods, got the player of the game nod with his double of 14 points and 17 rebounds as he made a mincemeat of the smaller Stags in which Paul Reguera had 17 in a losing effort.

The scores:

UST 79 -- David 23, Yee 14, Agleron 9, Ong 8, Kaw 7, Dytiandu 6, Reyes 5, Pacheco 3, Del Rosario 2, Javier 2, Chua 0 Ortiz, 0

SAN SEBASTIAN 55 -- Reguera 17, Carillo 14, Macapagal 11, Ocampo 4, Harder 4, Andaya 3, Mangahas 2

Quarter scores: 16-7, 33-20, 61-38, 79-55
