A Tale of Two Teams: One Point to the Crown

In a game that felt less like a final and more like a pulse held for almost 2 hours, the EAC Generals showed that championships are not always about control but about composure when it matters most.

On April 19, 2026, the Generals once more secured the Pinoyliga Next Man Cup Season 4 title, escaping with a one-point victory (77-76) over the Guang Ming Flying Dragons to claim back-to-back championships.

For most of the first half, Guang Ming looked ready to finish its Cinderella run. Playing with urgency, the Flying Dragons carried the weight of both history and farewell as their seniors, Team captain Kurt Lactaotao and Joshua Jamias, suit up for their final collegiate game before turning professional with the Bacolod Masskara squad in the MPBL.

“Tatlong beses na kaming silver finish this year. Uhaw na uhaw kami sa title. Fourth finals appearance namin ito for 2026 kaya buong buo kami ngayon,” Lactaotao shared in which he emphasized his goal to leave a legacy for the team as they depart.

But titles are rarely won by the team that starts faster, but by the team that adjusts. EAC, anchored by a core molded in the Brigadiers system, turned to familiarity when the game demanded clarity. 

With Coach Noy Catalan stepping in with a more hands-on presence, the Generals reshaped the game in the second half, tightening their defense, reading Guang Ming’s rhythm, and slowly bending the pace to their will.

At the center of that shift was veteran, MJ Raymundo. Already a Season MVP, Defensive Player of the Season, and Mythical Five selection before the game, Raymundo completed his campaign with a Finals MVP performance defined less by numbers and more by timing. 

With under 30 seconds remaining and the score at 77-76, Guang Ming walks away without the title, but not without impact. Under Best Coach awardee Paul Ramos, the Flying Dragons transformed from a slow-starting squad into a finals team built on resilience and belief.

EAC, on the other hand, leaves with more than a trophy, but a roster powered by emerging talent and hardened by close finishes. This only proved that the Generals are not just building a winning team but shaping a future just as relentless as this victory.
