RION Porcadas knocked down a huge three in the final 24.4 seconds as San Sebastian nipped Arellano University, 72-69, to enter the win column Friday night in the NCAA juniors basketball tournament at the EAC Gym.

      The Braves tried to send the game into overtime, but Naren Mallari missed a triple in the dwindling seconds, allowing the Staglets to escape with the victory.

      San Sebastian moved in a tie with San Beda, Jose Rizal University and Lyceum of the Philippines University at 1-1.

      It was another close loss to Arellano, which dropped to 0-2 along with CSB-La Salle Green Hills and Emilio Aguinaldo College.

      Letran, Mapua and University of Perpetual Help System Dalta share the top spot with 2-0 records.

      Ernest Geronimo led the Staglets with 20 points, seven assists and five rebounds while Porcadas chipped in 12 points and five assists.

      Xyrill Jalalon, brother of former Arellano stalwart Jio Jalalon, came through with 16 points, six boards and five assists while Fil-Am guard James Moore had a near double-double effort of 14 points and nine boards and three assists for the Braves.

      Action resumes Sunday at EAC gym, with JRU taking on Arellano at 9:30 a.m. and Benilde-LSGH battling LPU at 1 p m.

      A Monday tripleheader is set starting at 9:30 a.m. with the Letran-EAC, San Beda-San Sebastian and Mapua-Perpetual contests.
