DEFENDING champion San Beda faces its first major test in Letran Friday as the NCAA juniors basketball tournament resumes at the EAC Gym.
Ranged against a Squires side toued as one of favorites in the league's return after more than three-year hiatus, the Red Cubs are looking forward to elevate the level of play in the rivalry game at 2:30 p.m. to be aired live on GTV.
Behind Christopher Hubilla's 29-point, 15-rebound outing, San Beda gave new coach Miko Roldan a winning start with a 94-74 rout of Lyceum of the Philippines University Wednesday night.
Letran, for its part, turned to Andy Gemao's all-around game of 15 points, six rebounds, four assists and three steals in beating San Sebastian, 91-86.
While the Red Cubs never trailed against the Junior Pirates, the Squires rallied in the payoff period to frustrate the Staglets.
In other games, opening day winners Mapua and Jose Rizal University also eye a piece of the early lead at 11:30 a.m., while University of Perpetual Help System Dalta seeks also for its second straight win in the 9:30 a.m. clash with CSB-La Salle Green Hills.
Emilio Aguinaldo College and LPU open hostilities at 7:30 a.m., while Arellano University and San Sebastian wrap up second day of action at 4:30 p.m.
