As it turns out, Remy Martin won't the lone Filipino-American player who is hoping to splash into the National Basketball Association (NBA). And while Martin has already introduced himself to the United States basketball owing to the fact that he played for the Arizona State Blue Devils in the collegiate ranks, this other Filipino-American is also touted with so much hype and is supposed to enter college as a five-star recruit. And we aren't talking about Kai Sotto.
In hopes of proving that he's ready for the big stage in basketball, Filipino-American college prospect Jalen Green decided to forgo his collegiate career and became the first player to take advantage of the newest pathway towards making your way towards playing in the NBA by signing to play for a team of elite players in the upcoming season of the NBA G-League.
For those who aren't familiar, the NBA G-League program has been reshaped into which they will group those players who are considered as elite players into one team and that group will play together for one-year along with developmental program prior to getting eligibility to join the NBA Draft. Aside from preparing players to enter the NBA Draft, one of the main purposes of the NBA G-League is to help players improve on their basketball readiness as well as teach more life skills that players could use on and off the court.
If things go well for Jalen Green, he could make a case as a potential top-three pick in the 2021 NBA Draft as he is currently ranked third overall prospect by the 24/7 Sports Composite. He is also standing as the number two among combo guard in the United States as well as the number two player in the state of California. That's high.
In his announcement which he posted on his Instagram page, Jalen Green said that his ultimate is to get to the NBA. He also said in the same post that he wants to develop a better game overall which will make him more ready when the time comes for him to make that big jump into the grandest basketball league on the planet.
If things work out, Jalen Green might just be able to compete against Remy Martin in the NBA next year assuming that Martin gets drafted this year. Imagine this: two Filipino-American players potentially in the NBA alongside Jordan Clarkson. That's big.
The question now is this: Will Kai Sotto follow suit?
