Cainglet’s Heart at the Center of Ateneo’s Pinoyliga The Big Dance 2026 Title Push

Some players make their impact by putting points on the board. Some make theirs by battling for every rebound. For Alden Cainglet, it starts with whoever is standing in front of him.

In Ateneo’s 81-78 win over Benilde in the Pinoyliga The Big Dance 2026, Cainglet took on every defensive assignment handed to him and competed against each matchup with the same relentless energy.

Guard a shooter? He was there.

Take on a bigger player? He battled.

Change the assignment? He adjusted and went right back to work.

For head coach Louie Alas, that is simply Cainglet being Cainglet. “You can’t teach heart. Puro puso lang laro ng batang ‘yan.”

As the Letran legend puts it, Alden has an “enlargement of the heart”, a fitting description for a guy whose impact often comes from the possessions that do not show up on the stat sheet.

And it showed against NCAA powerhouse College of St. Benilde.

With the Blazers shooting the lights out early, Ateneo needed players willing to do more than score. The former SHS-ADC Magis Eagle provided the grit and effort that helped the Blue Eagles shift the momentum in the second half.

While Kieffer Alas and Travis Roberts led Ateneo offensively with 26 and 16 points respectively, Cainglet’s contribution also stood out but not through one defining play. Rather, it was an accumulation of small battles won throughout the night.

That is what the Blue and White faithful can expect from Cainglet as Ateneo marches on to the Elite Eight. A guy willing to take responsibility for the toughest matchup and stay there until they get the job done.
