San Juan wins MPBL Datu Cup in come-from-behind fashion

Jhonard Clarito played the hero’s role as the San Juan Knights captured the MPBL Datu Cup title with an 87-86 win in Game 5 on April 25 at the Rizal Memorial College gym in Davao City.

Clarito hit a lay-up over two defenders with 8 seconds left in the game as the Knights came storming back from a seven-point deficit with a 10-2 run to finish off the home squad.

Mike Ayonayon had 33 points and was named as the finals MVP for his spending performance throughout the series for San Juan, which was one of the 16 expansion teams entering the Datu Cup.

Larry Rodriguez had 15 points and 13 rebounds and Mark Cardona had 12 points for the Knights coached by Randy Alcantara.
