ABS-CBN Sports has been hailed as the home of collegiate sports as it used to broadcast the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) games whether it's basketball, volleyball, or football. With ABS-CBN's franchise to operate not renewed by Congress, the company had to shut down some of its divisions which include ABS-CBN Sports which went off the air last May.
In light of this, the NCAA last Tuesday has decided to terminate the 10-year broadcast deal it signed with the network even though they are already halfway done through the deal. Although it's not clear if the NCAA Policy Board asked for a compromise since there are still 100 million Pesos left in the remainder of the initial deal, the NCAA is in need of a new home for Season 96 which they hope to open by early next year assuming the present condition improves by then.
Reports are saying that the league has been receiving interests from two broadcast companies: GMA 7 and CNN Philippines. Observers also believe that TV5 is also in the running to get a deal with the NCAA as it used to be the home of the NCAA in the past.
