Tim Cone has agreed to coach Gilas Pilipinas in the 30th Southeast Asian Games.
In a statement last Monday, Cone said he is excited in his return to the national team as head coach. The 21-time PBA champion was the coach of the RP Centennial Team that won the bronze medal in the Asian Games in 1998.
“Even though my appointment is just a stop gap measure and a short term commitment, I am incredibly honored and proud to be selected to coach in the SEA Games. Wow! I’m very happy to help in any way.”
Cone said he will soon come up with a list of players that will be part of the Gilas pool for the SEA Games as he and the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) will be meeting for the plans for the team.
“I will sit down with the SBP over the next couple of days and come up with a plan of attack in terms of preparation, and we’re hoping by the end of the week, we’ll have a pool of players working together at full force. I’m extremely excited to get going,” said Cone.
