Due to the ongoing 2019 Novel Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) pandemic, basketball is virtually shut down as the said pandemic forced every league in the world to suspend their seasons indefinitely. What is worse is the fact that the National Basketball Association (NBA) is looking to work on a deal with the players' union to cancel the 2019-2020 season rather than go straight into the playoffs come May or June. And even if the NBA doesn't cancel the season and decides to proceed with the playoffs right away, it's still the question of when and given the fact that the United States now has the most number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the world, a May or even June resumption of the season is highly unlikely.
In effect, most NBA fans are resorting to watching old NBA games via the NBA League Pass to pacify their hunger for anything NBA. And fortunately, watching some classic NBA games isn't the lone thing that could fill the void that seeing our favorite teams used to fill. Thanks to the evolution of games, we can now play as if we're playing an actual NBA game in the comfort of our living room. Or for some, in the bedroom. And if you get bored at playing the usual "Association Mode" or you've probably done winning a championship in the "MyCareer" mode, there are some crazy (and non-crazy) things that you can do while playing NBA 2K20 which can be played on the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PC, and Xbox One.
When the latest edition of the 2K franchise came out last year, one of the major features of the game that made the entire thing a big hit like always is the availability to play in the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA) and that's something that even male players have been asking for years- including yours truly. While this one doesn't certainly belong to the crazy things you can do in the game, playing as a WNBA team set in an actual season that follows the same schedule as of the real thing is a real game-changer not just for the franchise but for console gaming as a whole. Imagine playing as Sue Bird or Diana Taurasi dribbling the orange as if they are Steph Curry. It's an awe to enjoy.
Now, if you're bored and you really want to enjoy the game to best you can, you can slide down the sliders of the game to make your team score easily virtually anywhere on the court. While adjusting the sliders of the game isn't a new feature, it has been a practice especially for both casual and bored gamers to adjust the sliders to whatever level they see fit. If you adjust the sliders on both offense and defense, it makes breaking numerous NBA records easier. Try breaking Wilt Chamberlain's 100-point record. Or break the record for most threes made in a single game. It's crazy and fun at the same fun.
Want to trade for a specific player but you want to keep your core players, turn off the "Trade Logic" in the options and trade away any player for a star player. Or, you can even put the late Kobe Bryant into the current Lakers team and win the championship in the "Association Mode". That's the dream, right?
We gamers, both casual and die-hard ones, should be thankful that games like NBA 2K20 are around to keep us from losing our sanity during these times. And while realism is the theme of the game, it doesn't mean that you cannot try to do crazy things in it.
