Amidst the uncertainty, the San Juan Knights are committed to play in the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League for a foreseeable future.
In a separate phone interviews with Pinoyliga, team governor Christopher Conwi and co-owner Jeremy Go assured that the defending national champions will still be around after the league announced the postponement of the fourth season last Monday, now named as the Mumbaki Cup in which the tip off was pushed back to 2021 owing to the effects of the novel coronavirus pandemic which halted the entire sporting world.
"The San Juan Knights are committed to play in the new season," Conwi said, as the squad led by MVP front-runner John Wilson and Mike Ayonayon are still intact as their title defense have gone down to their winner-take-all tiff with Makati in the Northern Division Finals of the Lakan Season Playoffs before the government-imposed lockdown have put a stop sign to any sporting plans for the next two months.
As the league confirmed its plans for the new season, the Knights will make their presence felt to show their support to the league.
"We fully support the league and we will continue to play once we can," Go added.
"If ever magkaroon ng preseason, we will participate," Conwi further said, and added that they have already have their plans to beef up their squad for the upcoming wars until the health crisis intervened.
With the health and welfare of the Knights their top priority, they have been instructed to keep themselves fit as they are doing their training sessions virtually every other day, despite missing their most favorite thing.
"Di lang kami kami makapag-team practice," Go said.
With the intact squad, the team had assured to its supporters that Ayonayon will be finishing the Lakan Season before moving up in the PBA, with the PCU standout being drafted third overall by NLEX.
The pair hopes that when the situation improves, the Knights are eager to settle their unfinished business on the hard court.
