San Beda beats Arellano to open NCAA four-peat bid

San Beda opened its NCAA Season 95 campaign with a 59-46 victory over Arellano last Sunday at the Mall of Asia Arena.

The Red Lions went on a 8-0 tear against the Chiefs in a big run to finish the third and that gave them the victory to open their quest for a fourth consecutive NCAA title.

Donald Tankoua had 13 points and 12 rebounds as James Canlas got 10 points and 7 rebounds for San Beda.

Tankoua, Canlas, and Evan Nelle joined forces in the third and combined for 16 of San Beda’s 19 points to enter the final canto with a 45-35 lead.

Tankoua began the run with a three-point play with Canlas burying a triple for a 43-35 advantage. Franz Abuda opened the fourth period with a basket to grab a 10-point lead and the Red Lions went ahead by as many as 14 in the match.

Nelle had an all-around game, contributing 9 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists, and 2 steals for San Beda.
