Two of the best when it comes to locking down their opponent in the basketball court took the stage on the second episode of Smart e-lympics. The TNT Tropang Giga backcourt duo of Roger Ray Pogoy and Kib Montalbo graciously accepted the challenge and took their talents to the virtual Olympics with a twist hosted by twins Mike and Matt Nieto.
Both known as long range shooters since their college days, the two PBA players were tested on a different level of shooting competition as they battled in a 30-second shootout using crumpled papers thrown in a trash can instead of shooting a ball in a basketball ring.
Kib started the game making his first two shots while RR struggled to make a basket. However, Pogoy, the former PBA Rookie of the Year, flashes his familiar quick release and ties up the score quickly at 2-2. The battle went nip and tuck and the score was tied at 10 with 10 seconds remaining on the match.
Sadly, Montalbo ran out of crumpled papers and took some time to manufacture one while Pogoy made all of his last three available crumpled papers go down the “ring” and took the lead for good.
Final score is 13-11 in favor of the man who was called by many of his friends as “Bogdan”, RR Pogoy.
RR proceeded to the quarter-final round of the competition while Kib got eliminated from the contention.
Before the game started, the teammates engaged on a friendly trash-talk when the host asked them who they think will win the match.
“Ahh alam na. Di na kailangan tanungin pa yan,” is a quick response of RR, a one-time PBA second mythical team member, while Kib, the sophomore guard out of La Salle, answered back with “let your game do the talking”. Both players and the hosts shared an outburst of laughter during the light moment of the show.
