Making history last August 12, San Juan set a new MPBL record when they beat Nueva Ecija.

The 109-95 victory at the FilOil FlyingV Centre broke Muntinlupa's old record for the hottest start to the season, as it made it nine straight wins to open the Lakan Cup.

For the defending national champions, they reiterated that it was a total team effort from the starters to the bench to follow the game plan.

"Nagkataon na nilaro namin both ends, offense and defense," said head coach Randy Alcantara, who was even aghast at their defense in which they even give up 26 points in the opening frame.

For him, he added that they have to make the most of their home advantage, despite winning their third straight game there.

"Wag lang namin papahiyain namin ang mga taga-San Juan, dahil alam natin na ilang games lang yung inaabagan buong season."

With the focus already against Cebu in Cuneta later tonight, the former Knight himself admitted that their fitness is one of their things that they are taking it seriously even since the start of the season, as they made the league notice that their title defense was backed up by their record-setting streak if they wish to get that elusive win over the Knights.

"Kelangan namin trabahuin ang mga weaknesses namin."

For the second straight home game, John Wilson lets his bombs fly to lead the Knights as he averaged 24 points in FilOil to sweep their August homestand

And for the former NCAA MVP, he credits just the crowd for their unwavering support, echoing his coach's thoughts.

"Sa part naman natin, di natin sila nabigo."

Apart from his usual scoring, he credits the endless energy of no less than Captain Hook Mac Cardona for their turnaround in the second frame, not to mention that them, along with fellow ex-PBA vet Larry Rodriguez are the leaders that their younger generation look up to.

"Kami yung mga good example sa team," he said. "Kami yung mga beterano, kami yung may mga experience, so kelangan namin magstart yung energy sa amin."
