With legendary players comprising the star-studded cast, San Beda were assured already of a spot in Pinoyliga Alumni Cup finale before the opening tip Saturday afternoon at the Gatorade Hoops Center.
And it was the Vittos who came through with a comprehensive 115-83 mauling of '97 in Division A of the 40UP category, thanks to a huge double-double performance by a second-generation player.
Former Laguna Laker Richie Melencio, a son of the late legend Tembong Melencio, fired in game-highs of 34 points and 16 rebounds in a rout that was practically sealed at half time when the Vittos up by 30, 59-29.
Melencio (40.04 PER, 64.5 SPs) were aided by 35UP Finals MVP Shin Dela Cruz's 22 and current Bulacan Kuyas mentor Kerwin Mccoy who added 19 on five triples.
McCoy's long bomb in the third period gave the Vittos its largest lead at 48, 85-57.
Overall, the Vittos dominated the stats except for three point shooting, where '97 hit 13/37 for 35% percent.
Zamboanga Masters head coach Britt Reroma lead '97 with 24 points in a losing effort.
