It may have been the longest wait we endured in years but here we are: the National Basketball Association (NBA) Finals is underway and the opener didn't disappoint.

The Los Angeles Lakers recovered from a 13-point deficit to beat the Miami Heat, 116-98  to take Game One of the best-of-seven series. Anthony Davis erupted for 34 points, nine rebounds, five assists, and three blocks. LeBron James added 25 points, 13 rebounds, and nine assists. Both forwards combined for 15 for 16 shooting from the free-throw line while taking advantage of the absence of Bam Adebayo and Goran Dragic in the second half. Kentavious Cardwell-Pope and Danny Green finished with 13 and 11 points respectively while Alex Caruso added 10 points off the bench. The Lakers led as much as 32 points in the third quarter where they outscored the Heat, 28-19. The Lakers also shot 45% and 39% from the field and the three-point line respectively.

Jimmy Butler led Miami with 23 points while Kendrick Nunn added 18 points off the bench. Tyler Hweeo had 14 points but shot two for eight from the three-point line. Jae Crowder finished with 12 points. Miami was overwhelmed by Davis' explosiveness due to the absence of Adebayo who many people thought is the ideal match-up against Davis. The Heat also got outrebounded by the taller frontline of the Lakers, 54-36.
