Four teams bannered the much-awaited return of the annual PDA National Basketball Tournament whose opening was held at the AFP Gym in Camp Aguinaldo last Saturday afternoon.

Led by PDA Sports Chairman Dr. Ronnie Nunez, the said tournament is set to be retooled after a long hiatus.

The esteemed PDA Board of Trustee has bigger plans ahead for the tournament as they try to bring back the organization’s yearly recreational tradition.

“From 2006 to 2011, I was handling the basketball tournament. Suddenly, yung officers back in 2012 to 2017 were not interested in the tournament probably because of the budget constraints or ‘yung responsibility na akuin pa ‘yung pag run ng basketball,” narrated Nunez.

“Actually, there has been a big clamor kaya binalik namin itong basketball. A lot of players were wondering kung bakit Nawala ‘yung basketball. They asked if kung pwede ibalik. Then finally, kahit medyo short notice, nakabuo tayo ng apat na teams,” he further mentioned.

Quezon City, Makati, Pasay, and APODAP|PARDTI chapters will battle it out for the one-week tournament, and all games are to be played at the AFP Gymnasium in Camp Aguinaldo.

While there are only four teams currently, Dr. Ronnie Nunez mentioned that a few more teams will join in the fray for next season as part of their commitment to foster camaraderie and well-bring within the PDA.

“This is one of the commitments of the PDA where they aim to strengthen the camaraderie and to improve the general well-being of our members. Taon-taon namin itong gagawin not only in basketball, but in badminton, bowling, darts, billiards, golf, and volleyball,” said Nunez.

“We will have more teams next year. Hopefully, it can be continuously participated by everyone since gusting-gusto nila talaga ibalik ‘yung basketball. In fact, other teams who couldn’t join are now preparing,” he ended.
