Clearly, Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) Commissioner Willie Marcial knows his priorities.
In a press conference held this morning, the PBA commissioner announced that the league is indefinitely suspending all league-sanctioned activities which include the PBA Developmental League (D-League). The reason for the said suspension is to ensure the safety and welfare not just of the players, coaches, and crews of both the teams and the league but that of the PBA fans due to the alarming spread of the 2019 Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) that has been paralyzing every country that has been infected with the said virus. The suspension of the PBA games followed the actions of other leagues in the country that also suspended their respective games since last Monday.
When asked how will this suspension affect the PBA in general, he pointed out that the PBA wasn't even thinking about the massive losses that the league, which is now in its 45th season, will incur. Nope. Marcial said that the PBA is looking at the safety of everyone. In addition to this, it was said that the PBA Board of Governors unanimously decided to indefinitely suspend all PBA games start today. It boils down to ensuring the safety of everyone.
When can we expect the PBA to return?
If the spread of the said virus is contained, Marcial said that he's hopeful that the PBA can go back to normal in three weeks' time. In short, it's going to be a game of "wait and see".
