The sheer number of Kobe Bryant murals and the places where they are located is a reflection of two things—the legacy left behind by the basketball legend after his untimely passing and the impact of that tragedy to basketball fans around the world.
After all, there are 263 murals of Kobe Bryant in the United States, with 204 of these artworks adorning the walls of various places in Southern California. Elsewhere in the world, 64 murals have been painted in Europe, India, Japan, Australia, South Africa—to name a few—and the Philippines.
All of these murals that pay tribute to Bryant and his daughter, Gianna, can be seen through the Kobe Mural website (kobemural.com).
The goal of the art platform is to honor the Los Angeles Lakers star, his daughter, other victims of the helicopter crash, and to “promote artists and organize locations of all Kobe & Gianna Bryant art murals in Los Angeles and around the world,” according to the website’s Instagram page (@kobemural) and platform website.
To view a Kobe Mural, go to the ‘mural map’ page in the website. It will show you a Google world map and the countries with the artworks are marked with circles. Then, click the circles to see images of the colorful tributes in their specific locations.
In the kobemural Instagram page, the latest mural is located Orange Country, California. Painted on the left side of a black brick wall, is a sweaty Bryant wearing a competitive face, and next to it stands the number 24 colored in white and purple.
Then in the middle of the wall, what looks to be a young Bryant dribbles a ball while blocking with his arm another famous NBA player, Michael Jordan, whose face is also painted on the other end of the canvas.
One of the murals in this country can be seen in Tenement in Taguig City. The whole expanse of the basketball court was the chosen canvas by the Tenement Visual Artists, which painted a black-and-white picture of Gianna hugging her dad.
On the wall of a shop in Melbourne, Australia, the words “Mamba Mentality” are painted, and above each word shows Bryant wearing his purple Number 8 Lakers jersey and his yellow Number 24 one.
The kobemural is currently followed by more than 50,000 Instagram users. The website, meanwhile, has a link to the MambaOnThree fund which aims to support the families of the helicopter crash victims.
