3x3 basketball action goes into high gear this coming weekend wit the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) organizing the Pambansang Tatluhan on October 29-30 at the Robinson’s Place in Manila.
There will be 32 Under-18 teams from all over the country who will be competing in the annual tournament, 16 for the men and 16 for the women. The best and brightest players will be in action for the said competition.
The event is sponsored by Smart being the main presentor along with Nike, Molten, Gatorade, Maynilad, Star Margarine, Robinson’s Place Manila, and Jollibee.
SBP officials said the purpose of the competition is to garner rankings points in the Under-18 category so that the Philippines will be able to compete in the FIBA 3x3 tournaments in Asia and in the world.
The Philippines has been very active in competitions as the country was able to compete in the FIBA 3x3 Under-18 Asian Championship and the FIBA 3x3 Under-18 World Cup.
The Philippines once ruled the Asian Championship in the boys’ division after winning in the 2013, the first time the event was held ever. In the women’s division, the Philippines took the bronze medal this year with Kristine Cayabyab, Camille Clarin, Ella Fajardo, and Angelica Marie Surada.
In the recent FIBA 3x3 Under-18 World Cup, the Philippines had a good performance and placed 8th behind Clarin, Fajardo, Karl Ann Pingol and Angelica Marie Surada. The men’s team of Gerry Abadiano, Terrence Fortea, Karl Quiambao and Carl Tamayo placed 5th.
