Week 8 of the One Love Basketball League-R3born Performance Cup saw Mira Nila, MNL Kingpin and Sideburns Barbershop post huge wins to solidify their postseason claims last November 23 at the FCL Center in Quezon City.
The Grizz of Sideburns made its first move as it fended off the challenge of Monster Energy Drink, 91-83 four their fourth win as many games, to punch their playoff ticket with two games to spare in Group B play.
All but two of the eight-strong Sideburns posted double-digit scoring, with player of the game Jay Salcuti leading the way with a double-double of 22 points and 10 rebounds for a PER of 21.79, taking 43 statistical points in the process with numbers powered by Pinoyliga, the official data provider of One Love Basketball League.
Salcuti got huge help from Marky Mercado and JD Cortez who hit 18 apiece, as Sideburns let it rain from downtown by hitting 9/22 from beyond the arc to negate the 52% clip by Monster inside.
Jones Agsunod's 22 points were not enough for Monster who fell to 3-2.
In the second game, MNL Kingpin got a huge scare from Ivan Hidalgo as they eke out a 109-106 thriller over Kings Cup in the lone game in group A.
Allen Zabala had an efficient Saturday to remember, as he only missed five shots from the field to lead MNL Kingpin with 27 points, including 3/3 from rainbow country for a 28.31 PER.
Player of the game John Cabrera filled his lines with a double-double of 15 points and 12 rebounds, alongside 6 assists to collect 48 statistical points in 28 minutes of action.
Hidalgo nearly carried Kings Cup with his 37 points and 22 rebounds for a PER of 51.09, but the two unsportsmanlike fouls by Jordan Mendoza and Gerald Bala did them in to wrap up their eliminations at an even 3-3 record.
In the other Group A game, Mira Nila put on a double-double clinic as three players put those numbers as it mauled Mad Cafe 102-72.
Player of the Game Carlos Carpio showed his passing game by dropping 10 dimes to compliment his 12 points (21.58 PER, 52.5 SP), while Gabe Natividad hauled down 12 rebounds while scoring 10 of his own.
Ralph Siababa and James Gotladera put up 19 points apiece but it was the former who had a double-double with 10 boards to his name for the now 3-1 Mira Nila.
Allan Dator's 27 points were not enough for Mad Cafe who fell to 1-3.
