One Love Basketball League: Young Once, MNL Kingpin get huge wins in Week 3

Week Three of the One Love Basketball League-R3born Performance Cup saw Young Once and Manila Kingpin win in their respective featured games as it was played out last October 12 at the FCL Center in Quezon City.

Making their season debut, Young Once were led by a former St. Clare stalwart as they scrape past Suave-Casa Empanda in a high-scoring shootout, 93-87 for their first win in Bracket A.

With both teams combined for more than 45% field goal shooting, Young Once had five in double figures to came out on top of a scoring spree, despite losing the battle of rebounds and assists.

Guard Marte Gil, who was part of the Saints' clean sweep of the NCRAA title five years ago, flirted with a quadruple double. as he put up a monster line of 21 points and 14 rebounds for Young Once, backstopped by John Rosagas who led all scorers with 30.

Gil capped off his player of the game performance after he added 9 assists and 7 steals in almost 30 minutes of action, getting a total Player Efficiency Rating (PER) of 40.05, taking home 81.5 statistical points in the process.

Jeff Tonido, Jed Sicat and Jocas Abelardo also hit double-digit territory to provide relief for the aforementioned duo, combining for 36 points in the process.

For the now 1-1 Suave-Casa Empanada, Jameson Hirro also had a double-double of his own, clocking in 25 points and 12 assists and added 3 steals for a PER of 25.33 (59.5 SPs).

On the other Bracket A game for the day, Manila Kingpin scored back-to-back wins after edging past Rice Ka Pa, 94-83 as Jaybren Motol went just a dime shy of a triple-double.

Motol supplanted Mark Reyes' 22-point game on a 90% shooting from inside the arc (24.89 PER, 33.5 SPs) by posting 10 points and 12 rebounds in more than sixteen basketball minutes to take the POG honors, accumulating 55 SPs and 17.13 PER in the process.

Allen Zabala and Ian Oya added 15 and 13 respectively for MNL Kingpin to go top of their bracket.

Justin Guce have tied with two of his teammates in scoring a team-high 16 points, in which he added 15 rebounds for the now 0-2 Rice Ka Pa.

In the lone Bracket B game, Mira Nila used its balanced scoring to subdue debuting SAMC for their first win, 90-74 as they got 6 players in double figures, led by Ralph Lanz Siababa's 17 points (19.96 PER, 42.5 SP).

JC Hernandez got away with the POG honors after getting a double-double of 12 points and 11 rebounds to collect 50.5 SPs (13.07 PER) in 24:31 of action as they moved to 1-1.

Owen Oliva flirted with a triple-double after he had 11 rebounds and 10 assists to supplant his 9 points for SAMC, who dropped their first assignment in the tournament.
