Despite being drastically hit by the 2019 Novel Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) pandemic, the golfing community in the Philippines was able to re-open in the latter months of 2020 with the Philippine Golf Tour capping off 2020.

2020 also saw the continuous emergence of Bianca Pagdanganan and Yuka Saso on the international stage.

That's what the new officers of the National Golf Association of the Philippines (NGAP) are hoping to sustain in 2021 and beyond as the new officers were announced last week after the association's elections held at the Alabang Country Club.

Getting re-elected is NGAP President Martin Lorenzo who is also hoping to unify all of the golf clubs in the country, and work towards furthermore intensifying grassroots training especially in the provinces.

Also elected in last week's elections are Aurelio Montinola III as NGAP Chairman, Rolando Romero as the Vice-President, and Valeriano Floro II as the Secretary-General. Al Panlilio wins as NGAP's treasurer while Jose Inigo, Shin Paul Chan, Vicente Santos, Jose Dagdagan, Jose Amado Angeles, Arnold Corporal, and Rafael Perez de Tagle Jr. will serve as board members.

Among the top things to look forward to in 2021 is the upcoming Tokyo Olympics where hopes of an elusive first Olympic gold medal are high as both Pagdanganan and Saso are considered to be the two of the country's best hopes of taking home that elusive gold from Tokyo. For Lorenzo and the rest of NGAP, they will make sure that they will make the most out of this opportunity.

We have been supporting Yuka and Bianca since we joined the board two years ago and we promise to do everything to make the most of this chance we’ll have in Japan,” Lorenzo said.
