#NCAASeason95Finals: Moving forward after a loss is what San Beda needed, says coach Boyet

One of sports (and probably) life's ever endearing cliches is that the best way to learn is after a loss.

Three-time defending champions San Beda had that in their minds after their 32 game winning streak that dates back from last season in the NCAA was snapped in Tuesday's game 1 loss.

By a point.

Against their arch-rival in Letran, no less.

Coach Boyet Fernandez, a mentor used to winning, having won five straight Finals matches before it was broken admitted that the perfect season took much from the players after winning 18 straight to go back into the title series.

"Having a clean slate in the whole season takes a toll to the players and the community. We did that and no one to be blamed about it."

Echoing coach Jude Roque's sentiments about forgetting the elimination round sweep, the former lefty guard was quick to be relieved of the growing pressure that comes with the Mendiola winning culture, losing for the first time since August 21, 2018 when Lyceum took them out with a 73-66 hacking.

"I’m sure, my players will be back. I think the pressure is off our backs right now. "

There is no one to blame but himself, as he accepted the responsibility of not making those plays they drilled in during practice, especially when their lethal shooting from beyond the arc lost its sting in Game 1.

"We shot 6/40. We’ve been shooting well from the three-point area, we’re the number one team in the league. Coming to the finals, our three point shots left us "

After being behind in the championship for the first time since 2015, Fernandez stressed the need for a fighting heart of a champion is there for San Beda ahead of today's Game 2, as they hope that it will not be their final game in season 95.

"We just have to suck this up and move forward."
