Sol Mercado is just one of the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) veterans who are currently waiting in the free agency to be picked up by a PBA team for the upcoming 46th season of the league that is set to open in April.  Joining Mercado in the free agency are Rabeh Al-Hussaini, Ping Exciniminiano, Yosef Taha, Davon Potts, JK Casino, and Jerramy King. And the free agency is set to grow bigger as teams prepare for what looks to be one of the deepest Rookie Draft pool.

As teams opened their respective training camp, some players decided to let go of some players to make sure that they will have enough roster spots for incoming rookies who will be picked during the March 14 draft.

The Rain or Shine Elasto Painters decided to put Ryan Arana and Kris Rosales in the free agency while the Alaska Aces did the same with Yutien Andrada and Abel Galliguez. Alaska also let go of MJ Ayaay who was later picked up by the reigning all-Filipino champions the Barangay GInebra Gin Kings. Glenn Khobuntin was also let go by the TerraFirma Dyip and was picked up by the TNT Tropang Giga. With the 2021 PBA Rookie Draft looking to be one of the deepest pools in league history, we can expect that more players will potentially hit the free agency.

The 2021 PBA Rookie Draft is set to happen on March 14, 2021, and while 97 applicants submitted their applications, that number will likely go down after the league releases the final list of draft hopefuls just days before the draft itself.
