Magnolia arranges rematch with San Miguel in PBA Philippine Cup finals

Magnolia advanced to the finals of the PBA Philippine Cup after beating Rain or Shine in overtime, 63-60, in Game 7 of the semifinals last April 28 at the Mall of Asia Arena.

The Hotshots Pambansang Manok battled back from 17 points down to take the win to arrange a rematch with San Miguel for the Philippine Cup diadem.

Game 1 is on Wednesday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

James Yap’s desperate game-tying lay-up attempt in overtime was blocked by Ian Sangalang, who made a free throw on the ensuing play to determine the final score of the thrilling match.

Ian Sangalang had 11 points and 15 rebounds, and Paul Lee scored 11 points in Magnolia’s Game 7 victory in the semifinals. Veteran Rafi Reavis also had a big game, grabbing 20 rebounds in the victory.

Yap finished Game 7 with 14 points for Rain or Shine, which was unable to protect its big lead against Magnolia.
