For Mac Cardona, the new season of the MPBL will be the toughest for San Juan, as the Knights gear up for the defense of their crown.

Before their opener away at Bacoor City tonight Cardona hopes that their experience will give them a huge edge in the upcoming Lakan Cup.

"Siyempre kami ang beterano sa team so kami ang maglelead ng team," he said after their preseason press conference in Cafe Ysabel last June 5.

Yet for the Captain Hook, who won championships in La Salle in the UAAP and TNT in the PBA, it will all hinge on their new signings, especially the Mapua connection of Andoy Estrella, Christian Bunag and Warren Bonifacio to gel together with the veterans.

"It's up to them kung susunod sila sa amin. Pero maraming bago, syempre sabik magpakita yang mga yan which is good. Yet kelangan pagbutihin nila dito dahil eto yung stepping stone dun sa ultimate goal nila."

Apart from that, he also shared one lesson from his coach Randy Alcantara, who was part of the original Knights who won the MBA title in 2000.

"May brotherhood sila," he added, noting that his mentor had a solid bond with former teammates including current Magnolia head coach Chito Victolero and big man Rafi Reavis. "Hanggang ngayon nagkikita pa rin sila. Magkaibigan pa rin sila until now."
