LOOK: Gilas Pilipinas Women schedule in FIBA Women's Asia Cup

FIBA has released the schedule of games for the FIBA Women’s Asia Cup 2019 Division A to be held from September 24 to 29 in Bengaluru, India.

A look at the schedule shows that the Gilas Pilipinas Women will play in the first game of the competition. But the Philippine team is facing a tough game in the opener as they go up against Australia on September 24.

Australia is one of the top women’s basketball teams in the world, having produced several WNBA players in the past. In the last edition of the FIBA Women’s Asia Cup, the Opals placed second in the competition behind champion Japan.

Gilas Women will also go up against China on September 25. Another tough outing for the Philippine side, China won the bronze medal in the last edition of the Asia Cup.

The Gilas side will finish its Group B campaign with a match against New Zealand on September 26. New Zealand was sixth in the last FIBA Women’s Asia Cup.

While it may be a difficult task for the team in its campaign, Gilas Pilipinas Women will definitely gain immense exposure from the top women’s players in the whole world. The competition will also be part of the team’s preparation for the 2019 Southeast Asian Games where they aim for a medal at their own backyard.
