Making a redemption story after that disastrous FIBA World Cup, the Philippines still had the chance to qualify for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics through the 3x3 tournament, after the governing body FIBA announced its field for the inaugural Qualifying Tournament on All Saint's Day.
The nine months of hard work made by the Samahang Basketball ng Pilipinas alongside its partners bore fruit as they are qualified for the men's tournament when the confirmation was announced tonight in Utsonomiya, Japan as the latest World Tour Finals tips off there.
Much of the qualifying points came in the tournaments the SBP had sanctioned, among them was the centerpiece Chooks-to-Go Pilipinas 3x3 where the likes of Alvin Pasaol, Joshua Munzon and Troy Rike took part, gaining huge points, as well as Pasaol's Balanga taking part in the Jeddah Masters this year.
Apart from it, the country hosted the Manila Challenger last September, which contributed to the capability of producing world-class events.
The Philippines will be in Pool C that will be played in India on March 2020, alongside, Slovenia, France, Qatar and the Dominican Republic.
Apart from the Olympic hosts, China, Serbia and Russia qualified automatically as the top three nations in the FIBA 3x3 rankings.
