Another week of basketball action in 2026 has been recorded in history, and while there were few movements that happened, this week’s Pinoyliga Collegiate Basketball Power Rankings have highlighted some teams improving through tournament championship victories, morale-boosting debuts and league wins while others experienced temporary declines due to inactivity.
THE TOP SPOT IS STILL IN ESPAÑA.
The University of Santo Tomas Growling Tigers maintained their grip on the top spot despite finishing with 2 wins and 2 defeats this week. It started with a loss to the San Beda Red Lions in the battle for third place in the UBelt Cup before bouncing back in the Filoil tournament with a win against the FEU Tamaraws.
They again tasted defeat, this time against EAC Generals in the Pinoyliga Collegiate Cup, and ended the cut-off date with a big win against Adamson Soaring Falcons in Filoil.
Despite a .500 record this week, no team below them had enough push to topple them from the pedestal.
BULLDOGS HOLD ON TO SECOND.
Despite not playing this week, the National University Bulldogs‘ consistent performance in the past weeks has helped them remain at number 2. However, the question is, for how long? Especially a red-hot team is lurking, ready to strike and take their chances to move up the rankings.
IT’S GETTING HOT IN HEREEEE
The Jose Rizal University Heavy Bombers climb up to the top three after going 2 and Oh this week including a title win in the UBelt Cup against EAC.
Lawrence Mangubat’s aggressive play has put him in the spotlight as the Heavy Bombers are showing that they have become one of the teams to watch out for after consecutive wins in different tournaments they have participated in.
This is the highest ranking that JRU has achieved so far this season.
SLIDING DOOR
UAAP Finalists, the La Salle Green Archers and the UP Fighting Maroons, saw their rankings go down as other teams have produced quality wins this week.
DLSU is now in 4th, while UP, inactive for the 2nd straight week, has found itself in the 8th spot.
Despite this slide, the two teams are expected to move up once they become active again.
RECOVERY
The San Beda University Red Lions have shown steadiness this week by copping 3rd place in the UBelt Cup at the expense of UST.
This is important for San Beda, as it has regained its confidence and is now ready to show once again why they are a dangerous squad.
MOVING UP
Three teams made noises in the Top 10 this week as they moved up in the rankings.
The Letran Knights, College of Saint Benilde Blazers, and Ateneo Blue Eagles each nabbed confidence-building wins that will definitely energize the team moving forward.
The Knights ended up with a 2-0 win-loss slate after wins against fellow NCAA squads in Mapua and EAC this week in the FilOil Tournament to rise to 6th, while CSB finished with the same record this week after prevailing against the rebuilding LPU Pirates and the upstart St. Clare Saints to return in the Top 10.
Ateneo, meanwhile, only had 1 game, but they were able to leave good impressions with a double-digit advantage win against Adamson.
MINOR BUMP
The EAC Generals maintained their position at 7th despite a 1-win, 2-loss record. Losses against JRU and Letran derailed the Generals uprising, and the win against UST in the Pinoyliga Collegiate Cup prevented the team from sliding.
Despite this minor bump, EAC has shown big improvement in their play.
OUTSIDE THE TOP 10
The FEU Tamaraws were pushed out of the Top 10 after a loss against UST and at the same time had limited activity to prove their worth.
Coach Olsen Racela and the Perpetual Help Altas continued their rise as they are now in the 12th position after an undefeated week.
This movement has proven that the Altas is one of the underrated basketball programs in the country today.
UPWARD MOTION
Some teams in the bottom half of the ranking have made their move in hopes of entering the middle pack.
Our Lady of Fatima Phoenix was able to nab a win over the LPU Pirates, which was enough for them to be pushed to the 20th spot.
Another riser is the San Pablo Ravens, who surprised everyone with their renewed vitality in their play as they pulled down a familiar foe in the PCU Dasmarinas Dolphins in their debut in the Pinoyliga Collegiate Cup.
The Ravens, coached by Francis Natividad, paraded the energetic Samuel Alphonsus, who meshed well with Mark Clarence Piana and Lance Miranda to lead San Pablo to victory as they start a new era in their basketball program after the graduation of their seniors.
NCRAA finalists, the ICC Blue Hawks and BCP Kalasag, also found themselves moving up as their championship series went to a deciding game.
LASTLY
This week’s rankings show that being active helps one build momentum to move up the ladder.
UST might be on top, but they must not rest on their laurels, as other teams like NU and JRU are coming for their slot while teams under the top 5 are gaining momentum and hoping that they can get as many quality wins as they can so that they can make the needed jump.
