Gilas Pilipinas Women dropped their opening game of the 2019 Jones Cup Wednesday in New Taipei City, with New Zealand running out 106-72 winners.
Patrick Aquino's ladies were put on the back foot by the Tall Ferns as they were routed from the opening tip, as they lost by a whopping 34 points, two years since they played their last competitive game.
The previously named Perlas shot just 37% from the field against the Kiwis, with former NU stalwart Afril Bernardino leading them with 20 points, as debutante Kelli Hayes added 17.
For New Zealand, Micaela Cocks shot the lights out with 21 points on a 75% clip from the field.
Gilas Women will face Japan's Mitsubishi Electric Koalas in their next game.
