Jia Morado's Season 79 Jersey Being Auctioned for COVID-19 Fight

If we are to survive the 2019 Novel Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) that has been, in a way, stopped the movements of almost everyone, we must do our part. We must help our government because whether you like it or not, the government alone cannot win this fight for us. And with no cure for the disease in sight just yet, we must continue to do our part no matter how small it may be.

Speaking of doing our part, our local athletes have been doing their parts in helping those who are fighting the good fight on the front line. For starters, the Nieto brothers of Mike and Matt, and the Ravena tandem of Kiefer and Thirdy, have been helping in distributing medical equipment and food to the brave men and women who are bringing the One Big Fight upfront. And they aren't the only Ateneo product who is embracing the "men for others" mentality in this time of crisis.

Jia Morado, a former Lady Eagle who served as the team captain of the Ateneo women's volleyball team in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) has already joined the One Big Fight against COVID-19. Her #12 jersey which she last wore for Season 79 of the UAAP has been on auction since yesterday with the starting bid being at 1,200 Pesos. As of 12:20 AM today, the highest bid now stands at 10, 500 Pesos and it is expected to soar higher as the last bid will be accepted on April 1 at 12 noon. Morado was a two-time UAAP champion and won the Best Setter award in Season 77.

The money that will be raised from the auction will be used to purchase personal protective equipment (PPE) to be donated to those men and women who are serving at the front line.

Morado's auctioning one of her memorable jerseys aims to do two things: give a chance to volleyball aficionado to own an authentic jersey that has been actually worn by the athlete and more importantly, to give back to the community. After all, giving back to the community is indeed the Ateneo way.

The item that is being auctioned might be small but the help it can make is bigger than any championship and that's what counts the most.
