Roby Herber has 10 years’ worth of coaching background in cycling. This is why he can list the reasons why Filipinos can succeed in cycling and make an impact in the sport under the MVP Sports Foundation (MVPSF).

“Filipino’s physiology and determination actually leans towards cycling,” he said. “With proper training, Filipinos can go a long way.

We just need to hone those inherent potentials in the sport: Training with focus on Power to Weight ratio; proper program with progressive adaptation; and willingness to develop skills,” he added.

Herber aims to develop the fresh talents he can find to join the sport under the MVPSF. He plans to “educate athletes and general cyclists in the Philippines about proper cycling” and “strengthen the current athlete base”.

Given his background, it’s safe to say these plans may materialize in the near future. Herber has, after all, spent 10 years as a cycling coach—and even five years coaching Muay Thai, Aikido, JKD, among other forms of martial arts.

Herber fulfilled the following roles: Level 3 coach at the UCI; Level 2 coach with distinction at USA Cycling where he was also a consultant for the Race-Ready Coaching Program; and on-board coach for the Taiwan National Cycling Team for the Race Across America competition.

He is also a USA Safe Sports Coach since 2011, Muay Thai instructor, power-based endurance sports instructor, and juniors and paralytics coach.

Cycling under MVPSF appears to be in good hands.
