While things might not return to the way they were prior to this pandemic, the latest development could give everyone in the sports industry something to be hopeful for.
In the new set of guidelines that are part of Resolution Number 38 of the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) for Emerging Infectious Diseases, mass gatherings will gradually be allowed in all areas that are under community quarantine regardless of it's enhanced community quarantine (ECQ), modified ECQ, general community quarantine (GCQ), and modified GCQ. And yes, certain sporting events are now allowed to be held provided that these events will be run with only 50% of its maximum seating capacity and all participants will be required to practice physical distancing.
Among the sports that are allowed to be held under the new set of guidelines set by the IATF are golf, tennis, badminton, equestrian, skateboarding, and other non-contact sports. The new resolution by the IATF also allowed fitness-conscious individuals to do exercise regimens such as jogging, walking, biking, and swimming while reminding the public not to share any equipment.
While this development is still far from the Philippine sports that we all became accustomed to, it's still a welcome development especially sports enthusiasts. We'll slowly get back sports. Slowly.
