The Gilas Pilipinas Women is off to a strong start in the FIBA 3x3 Asia Cup in Changsha, China.
The women’s squad started out their campaign with a bang, trouncing Samoa, 21-1, to take the win in Qualifying Draw A. The team of Jack Animam, Afril Bernardino, Clare Castro, and Janine Pontejos capped off the day with another victory this time against Chinese Taipei, 16-13, as the Philippine squad moved closer to sweeping the qualifying tournament.
It was the start the Gilas Pilipinas Women has wanted as they gained a chance to advance in the next stage. Animam, Bernardino, and Pontejos once donned the country's colors during the 2018 FIBA 3x3 World Cup played in the Philippines.
The Philippines will be facing Vanuatu next as they go for the sweep of the qualifying stage and a place in pool play where they will be grouped with Japan and Sri Lanka in Pool C.
