Gilas Women no match for Opals in FIBA-Asia opener

Gilas Pilipinas Women were no match for Australia as they lost, 123-57, in their first game in the 2019 FIBA Women’s Asia Cup in Bangalore, India.

The Opals outscored Gilas Women, 38-16, to dominate the game. They went on to win by 66 points in the contest.

Gemma Miranda scored 17 points and Afril Bernardino had 15 points for Gilas Women, who were outscored, 25-6, in the third period.

Gilas were outrebounded, 70-19, and only shot 34 percent from 2-point range, and 27 percent from 3-point range. The Opals hit 62 percent from 2-point range and 33 percent from 3-point range.

Eight players scored in double figures for the Opals with Ezi Magbegor leading Australia with 18 points.
