Gilas Pilipinas Women claimed its first-ever win in the FIBA 3x3 Under-18 World Cup 2019 after beating host Mongolia, 20-14, last June 3 in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia.
The team of Camille Clarin, Ella Fajardo, Angel Surada, and Karl Ann Pingol atoned for its opening game loss with a rousing victory against the host squad.
Gilas Pilipinas Women absorbed a 22-2 loss to France, which finished sixth in the previous edition of the competition two years ago in Chengdu, China.
Gilas trailed, 4-3, but widened the gap after four straight points from the Philippine squad. The host never got closed as the team even led, 12-7 and 15-9 to take control of the game.
The Philippines will hope to advance as it plays Netherlands and Czech Republic on June 5.
