Gilas Pilipinas Women advances to quarterfinals of FIBA 3x3 Asia Cup 2019

Gilas Pilipinas Women 3x3 gained a berth in the quarterfinal round last May 24 after finishing second in their group in the FIBA 3x3 Asia Cup 2019 in Changsha, China.

The team of Jack Animam, Afril Bernardino, Janine Pontejos, and Claire Castro placed second in Pool C after a 1-1 record, enough for Gilas Pilipinas Women 3x3 to secure a place in the quarterfinals.

Gilas beat Sri Lanka, 21-6, to close pool play with a victory after the Filipina 3x3 ballers fell to Japan, 20-8. Bernardino led the Gilas attack against Sri Lanka when she had 9 points with Jack Animam right behind with 8 points for the Philippine side.

The Philippine team has a chance to go deeper in the tournament as they face Australia in the quarterfinals on May 25. It will be a tough task for the Philippines to pull off an upset as they will be facing an Australian team who went unbeaten in Pool A including close victories over New Zealand, 17-15, and China, 16-14.

The Australia team is composed of Rebecca Cole, Madeleine Garrick, Alice Kunek, and Hanna Zavecz.
