Gilas Pilipinas opened their quest to notch its 13th consecutive gold medal in the 30th Southeast Asian Games men’s 5-vs-5 tournament, blasted Singapore via a 52-point, 110-58 rout on Wednesday night, Dec. 4, at the Mall of Asia Arena.
A balanced scoring attack by the nationals, led by Troy Rosario’s off-the-bench effort of 15 points, eight rebounds, and three assists, made sure they send a message to the rest of the field at the expense of their foes from the Lion City.
Stanley Pringle posted 14 points, on a perfect 5-for-5 shooting night with five assists, Vic Manuel added 14 points, as Matthew Wright and Junemar Fajardo finishing with 13 and 12 points, respectively.
Wei Mengleon Kwek finished with 10 points and five rebounds to lead the visiting Singapore five in a losing effort.
On Friday, Dec. 6, Gilas Pilipinas takes on Vietnam in their second assignment in Group A of the preliminary round, which will virtually decide the first side to enter the tournament’s knockout stage. Tipoff is slated at 8:15 p.m.
