Gilas Pilipinas is set to leave for China on Thursday for the FIBA Basketball World Cup slated to start on Saturday.
The beloved national basketball squad held its last practice at home at the Meralco Fitness Center in Pasig City on Wednesday. During practice, members of Gilas Pilipinas were also given their gears such as jerseys, shirts, shorts and luggage.
At the end of practice, Gilas Pilipinas officials made last minute instructions for their flight to China on Thursday morning. The team will fly from Manila to Guangzhou before going to Foshan.
In a report by Spin.ph, Gilas Pilipinas head coach Yeng Guiao conducted a light practice on the day before they will leave for China.
“We wanted to be a little bit more relaxed, a little bit more fun. Once we get to China tomorrow, we still start really seriously working again,” Guiao said.
Guiao also said in the report by Spin.ph they are now looking to acclimatize with the conditions in China.
“I think we are ready, as ready as we can be. But of course, the problem here is acclimatization period namin is quite short. All the other teams have been in China for the last week or so. Kami, dalawang araw lang. I don’t think there’s any question with time zones or the weather so I don’t think matatagalan ‘yung acclimatization. That’s my only concern actually,” said Guiao.
