The Gilas Pilipinas 3x3 squad achieved perfection as they won the gold medal in the 30th Southeast Asian Games 3x3 basketball tournament with a 21-9 demolition of Indonesia in the finals at The Arena in San Juan City on Monday.
Explosive forward CJ Perez provided an encore performance as he scored 10 points to complete the Filipinos’ perfect eight-game run to the gold medal.
With the home crowd wildly cheering their every move, the star of Columbian in the PBA showed off as he made one tough shot after another including the final shot that put the final nail in the Indonesians’ coffin.
Earlier in the afternoon, the Philippines made short work of Thailand, 21-11, in the semifinal round. Moala Tautuaa and Jason Perkins dominated the shaded lane for the Gilas, scoring seven and six points, respectively, in that semifinal encounter.
