Like everyone in the San Juan Knights, John Wilson had missed so much about the FilOil FlyingV Centre when they stepped on to the floor for the first time since June.
The team's leading scorer hasn't skipped a shooting practice as he picked up not only a game-high 21 points, but hauled down 10 rebounds for a double-double to lead them into a comprehensive win over QC last August 5.
"Masaya naman, kasi total team effort," he said after giving the San Juaneños something to be proud of to continue their winning start in the MPBL Lakan Season. "Talagang pinaghandaan namin."
For him, he took note of the entire month of July wherein they swept all of their five games, and fast forward to last Monday, he took several lessons along the way.
Not letting their guard down was one of them
"Huwag magpapabaya. Kasi sa isang iglap, pwede kang lamangan agad at matalo. Kaya nagpeprepare kami ng maayos," he shared.
On those five games, their overtime escape over title contenders Bataan extracted their heart and the poise of the champions to pull through a remarkable win, and also served as a springboard on their August schedule.
"Parang finals lang, so hindi kami gumive-up. Nung andun ako sa loob, sabi ko sa mga teammates ko na nundun na tayo sa sitwasyon noon. Naulit lang," he added, referring to their title triumph at the Datu Cup where they were down in the final minute to take the trophy away from Davao.
Going back to their blowout against the Capitals, he lauded the attitude of his teammates as they closed out the game right away at the second quarter en route to a convincing win at home.
"Andun yung composure namin to the end of the game. Kaya pagtagal, lumamang na kami ng sobra kasi sa team defense."
