SAN JUAN -- With only pride left to play for, UST finally found their groove from the outside as they send Mapua crashing down in the FilOil FlyingV Preseason Cup with a 91-67 rout last Monday afternoon at the FilOil FlyingV Centre.

Just minutes after CEU's win over Arellano sealed their fate in Group A, the Growling Tigers unleashed their full mayhem on the hapless Cardinals, needing a third quarter storm to improve their record to 2-4, ending their two-game losing run in an emphatic fashion.

In that stretch, UST held Mapua to just 12 points while putting in 38 to turn a one-point halftime lead to a 27-point rout to seal the win, in which they even led by as much as 30 in the final frame.

Rhenze Abando led all scorers with 23 points despite shooting 5/14 from behind the long line, which was part of the 12/34 that the Tigers shot as team.

Slotman Soulemane Chabi Yo put up a double-double of 18 points and 10 rebounds to backstop their forward sniper.

Denniel Aguirre had 21 for the Cards who wrap up their campaign at 1-6.

The scores:

UST 91 -- Abando 23, Chabi Yo 18, Asuncion 18, Ando 8, Subido 7, Huang 6, Bataller 5, Cosejo 4, Tarranza 2, Marcos 0
