SAN JUAN -- National University etched its name into the high school championship of the FilOil FlyingV Preseason Cup, after taking down San Beda in the battle of the then-unbeaten sides in the dream finale, 76-69 Sunday afternoon at the FilOil FlyingV Centre.

Even without the Gilas Youth trio of Gerry Abadiano, Terrence Fortea and Carl Tamayo, the Bullpups had a solid showing by Harold Alarcon and tournament MVP Kevin Quiambao for a 7-0 sweep.

Alarcon led the defending UAAP champions with 17 points while Quiambao posted a double-double of 15 points and 15 rebounds.

NU nearly blew a 12 point lead in the fourth after the center converted his techical free throw off the Red Cubs coaching staff, as the NCAA powerhouse inched to within a point with barely over two minutes left in the contest.

However, Ernest Felicilda had other ideas, as he had the clutch four points on their 8-2 finisher.

Even without Rhayyan Amsali, San Beda were carried by Troy Valencia's 14 and Justine Sanchez's double-double of 12 markers and 15 rebounds.
