SAN JUAN -- Lyceum rode on their hot start to take down Ateneo, 89-74 to go 2-0 in the Juniors division of the FilOil FlyingV Preseason Cup Tuesday afternoon.
The Junior Pirates started flaming from the opening tip, as they have erected multiple double-digit scoring sprees to zoom past a sluggish Blue Eaglets side, leading by as much as 23 in a wire-to-wire win in Group B.
John Barba took advantage of a small Ateneo frontcourt as he led all scorers with 25 points, and added 14 rebounds to complete a double-double.
McLaude Guadana followed with 23, including a triple that gave them their biggest lead at 30-7 before settling for an 36-18 lead at the end of the first.
Despite the huge deficit, Ateneo even inched closer to three points in the third after they scored eight unanswered points to start the second half, but could not find the higher gear to challenge Lyceum to fall at 1-1.
Forthsky Padrigao led the Blue Eaglets in scoring with 13 but he suffered a sprained left ankle in the second period that limited his performance, a five-point drop from their opening win against Adamson two days ago.
