SAN JUAN -- Centro Escolar came back with a bang in the FilOil Flying V Preseason Premier Cup on the final game of Monday's action, after routing Mapua with an 84-65 beatdown at the FilOil Flying V Centre.
Since their recent appearance in 2015 where they reached the quarterfinals, the Scorpions of Derrick Pumaren shrug off the Cardinals in Group A of the Seniors division, shooting 45% from the field, including 6/10 threes and out-rebounded them by 18.
Their win, their first in FilOil for four years, was even marred by a four-man brawl midway into the payoff period which was started by Warren Bonifacio who kicked Jordan Intic in the face.
CEU's Tyron Chan and Mapua's Justin Serrano joined in the fracas and all four of them were tossed due to the incident, with Intic got his dismissal on his second technical foul due to second motion.
Senegalese slotman Maodo Diouf made a mincemeat of the Mapua front-court as he led CEU with a monster double-double of 19 points and 23 rebounds with JD Formento became their spark off the bench as he hit for 16 including three triples.
Serrano led Mapua with 17 points on Randay Alcantara's first game as their head coach.
