SAN JUAN -- Mapua only needed just ten minutes of basketball to dispatch Arellano, getting their first win after four tries with an 85-65 rout to open the Thursday doubleheaders of the Seniors division of the FilOil Flying V Preseason Cup at the FilOil FlyingV Centre.
The Cardinals gave Kent Salado a rude return to the hardcourt, limiting the Chiefs to just four points in the opening period to move up a bit in Group A standings, sending the NCAA Season 95 hosts down the bottom after inflicting them their second defeat.
Warren Bonifacio led Mapua with a double-double of 15 points and 12 rebounds, with fellow big man Christian Buñag added 14 markers and 14 boards in just 24 minutes.
Salado the lone holdover from Arellano's runner-up campaign three years ago, led AU with 17.
