SAN JUAN -- San Sebastian moved closer to a coveted playoff berth in the FilOil FlyingV Preseason Cup after virtually needing a fifth period to outlast CEU, 90-88 to close out the Friday schedule at the FilOil FlyingV Centre.
Two overtimes were needed to cap off a marathon game between two teams that were coached by Egay Macaraya, as his alma mater prevailed over the school that made him famous, notwithstanding the fact that the Scorpions played with only ten men that displayed their heart throughout the game.
RK Ilagan bucked the absence of Allyn Bulanadi to lead Baste to improve to 4-1 record to move into second place in Group A, leading the Golden Stags with 24 points, including five treys as JM Calma provided the back-up the guard needed with a double-double of 22 points and 12 rebounds.
CEU's free-fall continued as it lost their fourth straight game, but not before Maodo Malick Diouf putting up a monster game, as the Senegalese slotman keep the shorthanded Scorpions afloat with his 34-point, 23-rebound performance.
