SAN JUAN -- Arellano mentor Cholo Martin heaved a sigh of relief, at last.

The Chiefs started the FilOil FlyingV Preseason Cup with four straight losses and at the bottom of Group A, but that changed last Thursday when they dealt San Sebastian its first loss.

For him, the win will not be possible if not for his wards answering the call to step up.

"They followed the gameplan," Martin said as he made his first appearance in the press room, following their 75-69 win over the Stags last May 30.

With the NCAA just a month away, the veteran coach identified one of the problems that needs to be fixed as the incoming hosts.

"Yung getting back to defense. So we need to be conditioned," he added.

Martin even bared that they have already prepared for this even with the absence of Kent Salado, adjusting as well after the sudden exit of Justin Arana have even worked in their favor.

"Yung aming preparation, wala sila. Nagdesign kami ng plays, ok naman pagdating sa game," he then concluded.
