It was the record that no one ever wanted, but the Philippines set their worst record in the FIBA Basketball World Cup after Iran pummeled them, 95-75 in their final classification game Sunday in Beijing, China.

Gilas could not sustain their hot opening in an all-Asian encounter, as they finished last in the field of 32 games after losing all of their five encounters, which almost equaled their worst outing in 41 years.

The record was sealed the following day as Jordan pulled a 79-77 shocker over Senegal

The last time the Philippines were shut out in the tournament was in 1978, where they lost all of their games but ended up being 8th because of the hosting privilege.

With the win, coupled with host China's loss to Nigeria means the Iranians return to the Olympics for the first time since 2008, as they get the better point differential after wrapping up their campaign at 2-3 in Group N.

Playing in what could have been his final game in the FIBA Basketball World Cup, slotman Hamed Haddadi had 19 points on a 67% shooting, as Iran had four more in double figures in the win.

NorthPort guard Robert Bolick paced Gilas with 15 points, and Adray Blatche added 12 before being ejected later in the game for two straight technical fouls

Iran flipped the swich in the middle periods, with a 9-0 run to break the game wide open as they even lead by as much as 29 which occured twice during the game.
